"This provides a fantastic opportunity for landowners and farmers in Wales to diversify their income streams, create new income and help us tackle climate change at the same time. For communities, the FiT provides the financial support necessary to make these schemes viable - we have high hopes it will stimulate community energy enterprises in Wales who themselves can then become more self sustaining," Michael Phillips, Senior Project Manager.

The FiT announcement follows the newly announced Community Scale Renewable Energy Generation projects, run by EST Wales, which will support the development of schemes such as wind, biomass and hydropower, by providing finance of up to £300k per project. Over £8million is available to support these community organisations to invest in renewable energy

A further 135 grants of up to £3k have also been made available for feasibility studies to investigate the potential for renewable energy in communities, and 35 grants of up to £20k are available to help the development of these projects.

A director perspective

"This long awaited announcement from DECC signals a kick start to the UK’s micro generation industry. With possible returns of up to 8% businesses and individuals will now see micro generation and small scale renewable development as a secure investment. Dulas is primed as a company to take full advantage of this opportunity," Ian Draisey, Director
